10 Ways to Leverage USAJOBS to succeed on the Performance Continuum™

Unprecedented human capital challenges demand that you strategically link your day-to-day activities to your agency’s mission. Success requires a solid toolkit to streamline the hiring process from planning your recruitment campaigns through ensuring high performance for the right candidate. Monster Government Solutions’ Performance Continuum™ provides a framework to address the challenges throughout the human capital lifecycle. USAJOBS and Recruitment OneStop target the first two phases of the Performance Continuum™ and provide an arsenal of tools to contribute to your agency’s and your success.

- Use Copy Job to Maximize Your Efficiency – Last year you needed to hire a Physical Scientist, and because of new demands you need to hire another one. Simply log into USAJOBS’ Employer Services, locate the job announcement and select Copy Job to create a copy of the Physical Scientist Position. Make the necessary updates to the position and post it.
- Take Advantage of an Arsenal of Training Resources – The best way to ensure efficient recruiting processes is to know how to wield the tools. USAJOBS provides comprehensive online training resources including regularly scheduled online live training, recorded live PlaceWare training sessions for you to learn at your convenience, Q&A from these training sessions, animated tutorials, and quick reference guides.
- Become a Featured Employer – Running a recruitment campaign? Attract attention to your agency and their positions by becoming the USAJOBS Featured Employer. Featured Employers appear on the Home and Search Pages and attract an average of more than 16,000 visitors each week. Contact John Still at OPM, jdstill@opm.gov, to become a Featured Employer.

- Write a Powerful Job Announcement - Write your job announcement in an active, job seeker-friendly voice, designed for the New Tabbed Display. Use effective positive communications to attract the best candidates. Avoid sending negative messages that will turn off qualified applicants. Instead of a message like “You will not be considered if . . .” try “You must supply all materials to be considered.” With our industry-leading spell check capabilities, you can be assured your announcement demonstrates high quality standards.
- Integrate Job Search into your Agency Web site - USAJOBS search functionality may be fully integrated into your agency’s Web sites, both public and Intranet. Use this opportunity to capture candidates when they’re engaged with your Web site. For a great example of search integration into an agency Web site click on Current Vacancies at the Department of the Interior’s Web site. And, best of all, basic implementation is offered by OPM without charge. Contact John Still at OPM, jdstill@opm.gov, for more information.
- Be The Featured Job – Get maximum attention by having your job highlighted as the Featured Job on the USAJOBS Web site. Featured Jobs appear on the Home and Search Pages and attract an average of more than 14,000 visitors each week. Contact John Still at OPM, jdstill@opm.gov, to make your job the Featured Job.
- Get Listed in Jobs in Demand – If you have strong hiring demands, get your job listed in the Jobs In Demand section of USAJOBS. Jobs in Demand appears on the Home Page and the Search Page and is a great way to attract candidates to your in-demand positions.
- Integrate your Agency Marketing Messages into your Job Announcements – In the new USAJOBS Tabbed Display, the Overview tab is the first information a job seeker sees when they view your job. And, the first section of the Job Summary on the Overview tab is reserved for agency marketing messages. Extend your agency branding and get job seekers excited about the opportunity to work as part of your team. Agencies need to supply the text of their standardized marketing messages to OPM in order for them to appear in the new Job Builder that will launch in April. Contact John Still at OPM, jdstill@opm.gov, to arrange for your agency’s marketing messages to appear in the New Job Builder for your recruiters to select when building a job.
- USAJOBS Resume Mining – Got a hard-to-fill position? The Search Resumes functionality in USAJOBS allows you to search through almost 300,000 resumes that job seekers have made accessible to Federal Recruiters. You can search by keywords, work authorization, willingness to relocate, education, and/or location. When you discover potentially qualified job seekers, you may email them and invite them to apply for the position. You may even save resume searches as search agents and have results appear in your email.
- Apply Online – The #1 request from job seekers is that they be able to apply for Federal jobs online. With the integration of your agency’s system to USAJOBS coming up quickly this will help qualified candidates apply easily to your positions. For agencies without a job builder or applicant management system, you can use USAJOBS’ Employer Services to allow candidates to apply online.
USAJOBS provides powerful human capital technology for agencies to plan and execute effective recruitment campaigns, and to extend your current recruitment marketing and management systems. A critical element in the first two steps in the Performance Continuum™, use these 10 ways to improve your recruitment efficiency and productivity.
