Building the Best Job Builder in eRecruitment

How can we attract the best and most talented minds to Federal careers when our job announcements read like a legal contract? For years private recruitment sites have delivered concise and appealing job announcements. An inter-agency task force led by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has worked over the past 10 months to define the next-generation job builder that will make your jobs competitive with private eRecruitment sites. This revolutionary job builder will provide functionality that outperforms all other public or private job builders. And it will launch in April on USAJOBS.

USAJOBS Raises the Bar in Online Recruiting

The new USAJOBS Job Builder delivers innovative new features that are not available on other public or private job builders. New features include:

  • Tabbed interface matching the new Job Announcement Display.
  • Progress bar shows you exactly where you are in the process and what needs to be done to complete your announcement.
  • Easy-to-Use formatting: Bold, Italic, bullet points, left, center, and right alignment, separation lines, numbered lists, and hyperlinks anywhere you need them in your job announcement
  • Pop-up lists allow you to select Federal government, agency, and recruiter-standardized text to tailor your announcements match your hiring needs
  • Agency-specific special requirement checkboxes allow you to use choices relevant to your agency without sifting through choices that you’d never use.
  • Streamlined interface delivers a leading-edge experience.
  • View all Job Announcement text prior to posting
  • Post your job to unlimited duty locations. The former job builder supported only 3 duty locations.
  • List your key requirements in the overview tab to help jobseekers quickly recognize what you’re looking for and maximize your qualified applicants.
  • Include your agency’s marketing message in your job summary to reinforce agency branding
  • The best Spell Check functionality on any eRecruitment website.

Preparing for Change

You can learn to use the new job builder by logging into your USAJOBS Recruiter account and clicking on the Training Register Now button in Employer Services. Demand for training on the new system has exceeded expectations and shows the passion for Federal recruiters to take advantage of the new features and functionality. As a result, the USAJOBS team has already added 4 additional online training sessions that are quickly reaching capacity. Because this is a radical enhancement to the existing job builder, the USAJOBS team will continue to increase the number of online training sessions available to recruiters. Training sessions will be recorded and will also be available online for self-paced training.

Even with the launch of the new job builder, you will still have full access to the current job builder and cut-and-paste functionality for a transition period. This will allow you and your agency to make a smooth transition to the new job builder and edit existing jobs as needed. After the transitional period, the USAJOBS team will first eliminate the ability to create jobs using the old job builder, then retire it completely.

What does this mean for agencies using QuickHire, USA Staffing, or another Agency Systems?

If you have an agency system such as QuickHire, USA Staffing, COOL, or use another job builder, these changes will not affect you. You’ll continue to use your existing job builder. To get your jobs to appear in the tabbed display on USAJOBS, your vendor will need to make changes in their system. QuickHire, USA Staffing, and COOL have been aggressively preparing to integrate their job posting functionality so jobs will appear in the tabbed display. Contact your system vendor for more details on when your job builder integrate to display jobs on USAJOBS in the new tabbed display.

Attracting the Best and Most Talented to Careers in Public Service

The innovative USAJOBS job builder will not only help level the playing field between public and private eRecruitment sites, but it delivers stand out innovation that raises the bar for all online recruitment. The USAJOBS team is committed to delivering a superior online experience for recruiters and jobseekers to ensure the Federal government attracts the best and brightest minds to public service.
